Security

Q. How is my phone protected?
Blackbelt runs in the background permanently and protects your device.

Q. How do I lock my device remotely using BlackBelt AntiTheft or BlackBelt Security?
To lock your device remotely, send a text message containing:

!AT password devicelock

Replacing password with the password set on the device.

Q. How do I wipe my device remotely using BlackBelt AntiTheft or BlackBelt Security?
To wipe your device remotely, send a text message containing:

!AT password devicewipe

Replacing password with the password set on the device.

Q. I have forgotten my password for BlackBelt Security. How do I reset it?

To remotely unlock your device you must send an SMS from one of the phone numbers you configured when the program first installed.

Send an SMS text message to the device containing:

!AT deviceunlock

There must be a space between "!AT" and "deviceunlock". e.g. "!AT deviceunlock"

The device will then unlock and reset the password. You must then configure a new password by running the application.

Please note:
The SMS MUST be sent from one of the preconfigured recipients.
This feature is only available in BlackBelt Security for Android v2.02.0007 or later.

Q. How do I locate my device with BlackBelt Security?

To remotely locate your device you must use the password you configured when the program first installed.

Send an SMS text message to the device containing:

!AT (password) devicelocate

(password) must be replaced with your password. This is case sensitive. There must be a space between "!AT" and "(password)" as well as a space after the password.

e.g. !AT 12345A devicelocate

The device will then determine its location and send an SMS in response containing the location and a map URL.

Please note this feature is only available in BlackBelt Security for Android v2.02.0007 or later.

General

Q. Can I set BlackBelt AntiVirus to scan/update regularly?
Yes, on the main menu choose Options and you can set BlackBelt AntiVirus to scan every 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks and to update 1, 2 and 3 months. We recommend that you scan your device regularly and update BlackBelt AntiVirus regularly to ensure your device is fully protected.

Q. Do you support my device?
Our applications support smartphones based on Android v1.6 or later as well as those that use Symbian's S60 operating system. Specifically S60 2nd edition FP1 or later and S60 3rd/5th edition for Nokia devices. Please visit our 'Choose your device' page for more information.

Q. How do I re-install a software update if the install process failed? (Symbian S60 2nd Ed.)
Should a software update fail it is possible to manually install the update from the Application Manager. To accomplish this launch the Application Manager and look for an un-installed version of BlackBelt AntiVirus: an un-installed application is denoted by a cube shown to the left of the file name. If this is found press “Options” followed by “Install” to install the new software.

Q. How do I tell whether an update was successful?(Symbian S60 2nd Ed.)
Early releases of BlackBelt AntiVirus prior to 1.12.01 do not indicate whether an update has been successful so if BlackBelt AntiVirus is re-launched following the update the likelihood is that the virus database has been updated. If, instead of BlackBelt AntiVirusbeing launched the Installer is invoked, then new software has been downloaded. After the Installer has run if the software version number is unchanged or you suspect the Installer has failed then launch the Application Manager and look for an un-installed version of BlackBelt AntiVirus. See the FAQ “How do I re-install a software update if the install process failed?” for details of this process.

Q. How do I tell which version of software is installed?
On 2nd edition software prior to release 1.12.01 the software version is contained at the bottom of page 1 of the Help information. On later 2nd edition and all 3rd edition releases this information is contained on the About screen.

Q. I have a scratch card from BlackBelt, how do I get BlackBelt AntiVirus for my device?
Scratch off the panel on the reverse of your scratch card to reveal the key, go to http://www.blackbeltdefence.com/card and enter the key in the box on screen. Click next and follow the instructions on screen.

Q. I tried to install the trial version of BlackBelt AntiVirus but it tells me that the software trial period has expired, why?
This notification displays only when a device has already had an BlackBelt AntiVirus trial version installed on it and when the trial version has expired after thirty days. The BlackBelt AntiVirus trial version can only be installed on a device once and thereafter the full version should be installed to maintain anti virus protection for your device. If you have not previously had the BlackBelt AntiVirus trial version installed on your device, please advise us and we will investigate this issue further. If you have previously had the BlackBelt AntiVirus trial version installed on your device, please go to http://www.blackbeltdefence.com/products and purchase the full product.

Q. What is the significance of the “Close All Applications?” dialog that appears sometimes during the Update process on 2nd edition handsets?
The “Close All Applications?” dialog may be generated by the Installer as part of an Update if the Update program has not exited before the Installer starts. Under these circumstances you should press “Yes” and the Installer will attempt to close the application. Unfortunately this action is not processed effectively on all 2nd edition handsets, resulting in the install process failing with no error notification being given to the user If this occurs see the FAQ “How do I re-install a software update if the install process failed?” for details of how to recover the update.

Q. Why does BlackBelt AntiTheft lock my device each time I turn it on?
Common causes of this include using a SIM card with a pin number configured or your phone being in flight mode. On Windows Mobile before the SIM pin has been entered or when the device boots in flight mode the software cannot verify your SIM card and therefore must lock the device to prevent unauthorised use. While this is not recommended it can be prevented by disabling the "Device Lock" feature in the "SIM Protection" settings screen.

Q. Why does my device display an "irrecoverable error" message, after completing an update?
This is a known, but rare issue with some Windows Mobile 6.1 devices and has been fixed in version 2.2.004. This version is now available to download using the update feature. If you cannot start BlackBelt AntiVirus to run update please restart your device with any memory cards removed and retry. If the problem persists please contact support. I have an error message showing after running the update process. If you have seen the message as shown in the screenshot below, please contact support by clicking here.

Q. How do I know if my phone has a virus?
Different viruses affect your phone in different ways, but common signs are:

  • Your phone runs much more slowly than usual
  • You can’t access any of your files or only some of them
  • Your icons have disappeared/changed to all the same icon
  • You can’t see any text on your phone
  • Your phone bill has increased suddenly, but you haven’t been using it more than usual
  • Your phone resets itself on a monthly basis
  • Your battery doesn’t last as long as usual. This list is not exhaustive, so if you notice your phone behaving in an unusual manner you may have a virus on your phone.

Q. I don’t have mobile internet, how do I update BlackBelt AntiVirus?
In order to update BlackBelt AntiVirus without access to mobile internet, connect your device to your internet connected PC via USB and run update on BlackBelt AntiVirus. This will then enable you to download any available updates.

Q. I signed up for the trial version of BlackBelt AntiVirus and I have not received any email from you.
